The objective of this lesson is to examine how family attitudes affected Despereaux and his development.

Lesson

1) Initiate a class discussion into the manner in which Despereaux was examined by his family. What flaws were they quick to see in him? How does this affect the way that Despereaux feels about himself?

2) Break the class into groups and debate the effects of negative energy. How does this kind of energy make a person or a mouse feel about himself or herself? Create a list of negative and positive things said to Despereaux and note how each one makes him feel.
