Possible Activities:

This lesson would be excellent for pre-teaching and preparing the students with appropriate background knowledge upon which to better understand the events in the book.

• Have the students create a flow chart of the typical process, highlighting which portions differ in relation to the governments of the UK, US and Russia during the Cold War (the time period of this novel).

• Have the students work in pairs to create a list of ways that each type of government differs.

• Have the students work in a small group to discuss the ideas of how the governments during the cold war spied on each other and what purpose that would serve.
