Do some research on the reviews for The Sheltering Sky. How was this book received by critics? Did the critical reviews differ from the public's reviews? How do all these reviews compare/contrast to your own view of the novel? Write a short report of your findings.

Alternate Ending

Write a scene giving the story an alternate ending. What might you change? How might the message of the story be different if certain elements of the storyline are different? Write a short report discussing your motivations for the plot changes.

Costumes

Come to school dressed in the costume of one of the characters in the novel. Divide the class into groups of two teams who must guess which character each student on the other team is dressed as. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
