Chapter 1:

· The novel begins with a brief newspaper article declaring that that famed Hollywood actress Evelyn Hugo, now 79 years old, has announced the auction of several gowns in an effort to raise money for breast cancer research.

· The article explains that Evelyn’s daughter, Connor Cameron, had passed away from breast cancer a year earlier and that Evelyn, a widow after the death of her seventh and final husband, Robert Jamison, lives in Manhattan.

· The novel then shifts to Monique Grant, a 35-year-old writer for Vivant, a women’s magazine.

· Monique has been invited into her editor’s office; there, her editor, Frankie, informs Monique that Evelyn Hugo’s publicist has reached out to request that Monique conduct an interview with the Evelyn...
