Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to familiarize themselves with the author’s background and make inferences about why she decided to write this novel. Students will explore the author’s literary influences and life experiences that inspired her to write this novel.

Class Discussion: Who is the author of The Running Dream? Where is she from? What other books has she published? What kinds of books does she write? What literary awards has the book received? What are her literary influences? What events in her life made her interested in the topics and themes covered in the novel? What about the author’s background or personal interests compelled her to write The Running Dream?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups to compile a list of facts about the author, encouraging them to include information that impacts the novel’s themes...
