In the beginning of the book, Steve Crow, the station manager of WZZZ delights in the radio station's format. The ratings tend to increase sharply when there are problems with the traffic since everyone knows that WZZZ has a first-rate traffic reporting staff and can offer valuable information. It is important to Steve to be able to rely on his morning staff which includes a helicopter, as well as his midday reporter, Frank Menken, who is a seasoned professional.

Lesson

1. Steve knows that it is important to give accurate information to drivers on the highway, particularly those who are on the Beltway surrounding Washington, D.C., which is a notoriously dangerous and congested highway especially during rush hour.
