Objective: Book 1, The Trap : Chapter 1, Introduction & Chapter 1 The author sets up the beginning of Lyndon Johnson's rise to power by introducing a little of his background. The objective of this lesson is to learn more about Lyndon Johnson as a man before becoming President of the United States.

1) Lead the class in a discussion about Lyndon Johnson. What did the students know about Lyndon Johnson before reading this book? What do they know about Lyndon Johnson now? Why was Lyndon Johnson destined for greatness? What were Johnson's character traits that would make him a great man? Do the students think Johnson was a great visionary, leader, or both?
