Object Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Objects
Bidlack Treaty (1846) - An agreement between U.S. and Colombia, giving the U.S. exclusive right of transit across the Isthmus of Panama and makes possible building the Panama Railroad.
Compagnie Universelle du Canal de Panama - This company is formed by Ferdinand de Lesseps to build a canal across the Isthmus of Panama.
Compagnie Nouvelle du Canal de Panama - This company is intended to prevent the French assets in Panama from deteriorating, but in late 1901 it sends word to Washington the directors want to sell at any price.
