Objective

Precious Ramotswe's father saves all that he can while working in the mines to ensure his daughter will have a future that is secure, but his daughter is not interested in taking over the cattle ranch he has invested his money in.

The objective of this lesson is to examine the choices made by Precious and the direction she takes with the equity left to her by her father.

Lesson

1) Initiate a class discussion into the choices available to a young woman in Botswana. What are the options open to Precious? In her shoes, what would most women her age in that country do with the kind of equity stake she is given?

2) Break the class into groups and examine the choices available to Precious. How do they differ from the choices that would be available to her had she been born male instead of female...
