Fun Classroom Activities

The 20 enjoyable, interactive classroom activities that are included will help your students understand the text in amusing ways. Fun Classroom Activities include group projects, games, critical thinking activities, brainstorming sessions, writing poems, drawing or sketching, and more that will allow your students to interact with each other, be creative, and ultimately grasp key concepts from the text by "doing" rather than simply studying.

1. Soldier's Life

Do some research to find what a typical soldier's life was like during the 1800's. Write a short report comparing and contrasting that life to the soldiers' lives presented in the novel. Do you think Lily Tuck does a good job capturing this lifestyle? Why or why not?

2. Alternate Ending

Have students write a scene giving the novel an alternate ending. What might they change? How might the message of the novel be different?
