This section of the book consists of the Prologue and introductory material. This lesson will help the students understand the goal and purpose of a prologue and introductory material.

Lesson

1. Divide the students into small groups. Have each small group go through the Prologue and decide what information is introducing the story and what information is supporting the story. For example, the fact that humans can travel faster than light between jump points would be information to support the story since that has nothing to do with the story line. Share the lists with the class.

2. Keep the class in their small groups. Ask each small group to go through the introduction and make a list of questions they have about the characters presented. Share these with the class (and keep for the homework).
