Objective

The aim of this lesson is to introduce the novel.

Lesson

1. Class discussion. Have the students heard of the novel before? What do the students expect from the book? Why do they expect these things to happen?

2. Brainstorm Edward Abbey's past works with the students. Do his books share similar themes? Divide the students into pairs and assign them each a book to research. On their return, discuss what the students expect from THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG?

3. With the students look at the questions that Abbey asks in the opening chapter of the novel. Divide the students into pairs and ask the students to write down five questions Abbey poses in the opening chapter. After ten minutes, ask the students to swap their work with another pairs and provide solutions to the questions. After...
