• The Looming Tower is a nonfiction book by Lawrence Wright. Wright’s book gives a historical account of the development of al-Qaeda and events leading up to the September 11 attacks and examines the failures of U.S. intelligence agencies in preventing these terrorist actions.

• In his Prologue, Wright introduces several individuals who played key roles in the uncovering of Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. Primary among these is Dan Coleman, an FBI agent assigned to foreign intelligence cases at Alec Station in Tysons Corner, Virginia.
