Objective: Conway claims he became a naturalist at age 7. Learn about naturalists, their lifestyle, and fundamental differences.
1) 1. Conway was taught early on to make use of what was found in nature rather than going to a store to buy the items he needed. Discuss what types of items were most useful to Conway while living in the woods. What items did Karen Conway teach her son to make and/or use? Explain. Why would it be important to find clay? Name at least three natural items commonly used by Conway, discuss possible uses, and pros and cons of the natural items versus manufactured items.
2. As a class choose three items or methods adopted by Conway. Gather the materials and use them as Conway would. For example, Conway was adept at weaving grass into ropes or baskets. Create at least one item to share with the class.
