Objective

The Kingdom of This World is a historical novel by Cuban author Alejo Carpentier. The novel tells the story of the political turmoil in Haiti following the French colonial days. Ti Noël is introduced in Part One: Chapter I as a slave on a plantation in northern Haiti, then known as Santo Domingo. Objectives for this lesson include researching author Alejo Carpentier and the French colonization of Haiti, and defining and analyzing the setting of the novel.
