The Commander's House

The Commander’s House is where the majority of the action takes place. This is an old Victorian house, apparently pleasant, and beautiful. However, it is divided into territories belonging to people – the kitchen to the Marthas, the garden and sitting room to the Commander’s wife, and so on. Offred’s room is sparsely furnished, so that she won’t have any means of harming herself or others; however, this leads to her great boredom and time to contemplate her situation. There is also a garage; Nick lives above it, and Offred later goes to visit him there when they become lovers.
