Objective

In this lesson, students will analyze the forms of government and family relationships of the leadership of the various major European powers in the early twentieth century. The objective should be to help the students understand life in a world with kings, czars, and kaisers often related and yet leading massive countries that became pitted against each other in World War I.

Lesson

Class Discussion: What kind of men attended the funeral of Edward VII? How did the Kaiser fit in with the group? How does this funeral contrast the relationships of the royal families of Europe with their individual duties to lead their countries?

Group Activity: Split into groups and have each group pick a nation that was represented at the funeral of King Edward VII. Have each group research what kind of government each nation had and then present their findings to the class...
