Harold C. Schonberg (1915 - 2003) was an American music critic and journalist and was the first author to win the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism in music. The Great Pianists is a work of historical non-fiction published in 1963 and updated in 1987. The historical period covered in the text runs from 1709 when the piano was invented to the late 1980s. In this lesson, students are introduced to the book The Great Pianists and its author Harold C. Schonberg.
