Character Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Characters
John Augustus Roebling - This character is an enigmatic, wealthy manufacturer of wire rope and builder of precedent-setting suspension bridges, but did not live long enough to see the Brooklyn Bridge into fruition, and passed the project on to his son.
Col. Washington (Wash) Roebling - This character inherited the Brooklyn Bridge project from his father who first dreamed it, and spent the rest of his life battling critiques who said he was the wrong choice to overtake the project.
