Character Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters
Jacques Cormery - This character is the novel version of the author. He is an Algerian man in search of information about his deceased father.
Lucie Cormery or Catherine Cormery - This character is the partially deaf and mute mother of Jacques and widow of Henri. She is a maid or house worker who lives in extreme poverty.
Henri Cormery - This character is the father of Jacques. He dies in a war in France in 1914.
