"The Endless Steppe" is an autobiographical account of Esther Rudomin's life. The objective of this lesson is to discuss the genre of "The Endless Steppe."

1) Research: Look up the following terms and write definitions: genre, non-fiction, fiction, memoir, autobiography, and biography. Write the answers to these questions: What is the difference between non-fiction and fiction? What is the difference between an autobiography and a biography? Is a memoir a type of autobiography? Why or why not? Would a memoir be considered a subclass of the autobiography genre? Why or why not?

2) Class Discussion: What is the subject matter of "The Endless Steppe"? Does the book focus on one person? Who was narrating the story?
