Dressing as a Character
Dress up as one of the main characters for a day. Explain to the class why you chose the clothing pieces you did and how they fit into the story.
Listen to several Haitian songs from this time period to get an idea of the culture. Discuss the role of music in the story.
Draw the Hotel Trianon as if you were the architect who designed it. Use details from Brown's explanation of the building given in Section One, Chapter One.
Identify the source of passion in food and create a meal plan which eliminates it. The Smiths saw meat as acidic, and claimed that the elimination of meat would reduce passion (all passion, not just love, as Brown assumed). Do you agree or disagree? How would your meals look? Bring a sample to share with the class.
