Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author's, Grace Paley, background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the book. Students will discuss and research information like where the author is from, how old she is and what other books or stories the author has published. Students will consider how this information might impact their reading.
Grace Paley was an American short story writer born in 1922. She was raised in The Bronx by Jewish parents. Paley was a feminist and anti-war activist.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who is the author of The Collected Stories of Grace Paley? Where was she born and raised? Where was her family from? How was Paley's work received by the public? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the story?
