Chapters 1-4

Rita Gelman is a married woman with grown children. The title of this chapter is, "The Beginning." The objective of this lesson is to explore the concepts of new beginnings.

Lesson

1) Partner project: Split the students into pairs. Tell the students that one person is to act as an interviewer, and the other is to pretend they are Rita. Write down interview questions and answer them as Rita would. Be ready to share the questions and answers with the class.

2) Small group discussion: Why does Rita feel as if she needs a new beginning? What incident occurs to make her re-think her life? How does it affect her home life? What steps does she take to make all the areas of her life merge?
