Objective

Sunrise Over Fallujah is a young adult novel by award-winning and critically acclaimed bestselling author Walter Dean Myers. Published in 2008, the novel follows protagonist Private Robin Perry, a young black man from Harlem who has entered the military following the 9/11 attacks and is among the first troops entering Iraq in the Iraq War. In this lesson, students will conduct research on the 9/11 attacks and the onset of the Iraq War, and will analyze and discuss the Prologue of Sunrise Over Fallujah.

Research Activity: Conduct research on the terrorist attacks that took place in New York and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001 and the declaration of war between the United States and Iraq in March of 2003.
