"Stormbreaker" is the first novel in the Alex Rider series. Written by British television and film writer Anthony Horowitz, the Alex Rider series is a highly popular series aimed at young adults, and this novel was made into a movie in 2006. Nine novels have been published in the series since "Stormbreaker" was released in 2000.

2. How is the protagonist introduced in Chapter 1, "Funeral Voices"? What central conflict is introduced in the beginning of the first chapter?

In Chapter 1, "Funeral Voices," Alex wakes in the middle of the night to the sound of knocking on the door. Alex overhears the police telling Alex's housekeeper and good friend, Jack Starbright, that his uncle, Ian, has been killed in a car accident. The reader meets the main character and the conflict that will propel the plot almost in the same sentence.
