Born in Scotland to a good family. Currie immigrated to Canada from the Scottish Highlands with nothing to his name. However, this character became wealthy as owner of Currie's General Store in Manawaka. Stern, authoritarian, and a harsh disciplinarian, Currie prides himself on being a self-made person and he expects others to conform to the same high standards.
Works hard in the Currie store, but is clumsy, ambitiously dreaming of becoming a lawyer or buying a ship and entering the tea trade. This character dies of influenza while, still a young man without putting up a fight.
