Character Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Characters
Eldridge Cleaver - Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1935, he was convicted of drug possession for what he terms "a shopping bag full of marijuana."
Beverly Axelrod - Axelrod is a San Francisco attorney who first met Cleaver for advice on legal matters while he was housed in Folsom Prison.
Butterfly - He is a fellow black inmate who denied liking white women when asked, saying his grandmother was white, and he even hated her.
Emmett Till - He is a black child who was murdered for allegedly flirting with a white...
