Objective

Someone Knows My Name is a historical novel by award-winning Canadian author Lawrence Hill. Published in Canada and elsewhere with the title The Book of Negroes, the novel follows the life of Aminata Diallo, a young African girl who is kidnapped and sold into slavery during the 18th century. In this lesson, students will conduct research on author Lawrence Hill, abolitionism, and the setting of early 19th century London, and will identify and analyze the narrative style and protagonist of the novel as established in Book One, Chapter 1: "And Now I am Old."
