1. Why does Torey switch from having a full-sized class to one with only a few students?

Torey switches from teaching a regular, full-sized class to one with only a few students by the request of Birk Jones, who is the head of the special education district. The federal mandate involving the school system requires that all special needs children be mainstreamed. Torey is asked to spend a few hours each day with small groups of 2-5 children who require special help.

2. Describe Boo.

Boo is a seven-year-old who is still in kindergarten. He has a black mother and a white father. Boo is easily over stimulated, isn't toilet trained and never interacts with others. He is said to probably be autistic.

3. What happens when Boo arrives at Torey's classroom?

When Boo arrives at Torey's classroom, he begins screaming. His screams are said to sound like a rabbit being strangled. Boo's screams upset the other children in the class. Torey tries to get Boo to stop screaming, but he runs away from her and out of the classroom.
