Character Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Characters
Sizwe Bansi - The protagonist of the play, this character is of African descent who must change official identity.
Buntu - This character is a friend who convinces the main character to assume a new identity, and assists the main character in many ways.
The Man - This name is also known as the main character's name.
Styles - The owner of a photography studio in New Brighton, this character is courageous enough to quit a steady job and start a private business, which was difficult for blacks at this time
