Objective: Chapter 1 This story is really a story about character. The plot focuses less on the development of events and more on the illustration of Félicité's character. This lesson will focus on the introduction of the central character, Félicité.

1. Freewrite: Give students about 5 minutes to write down everything they can remember reading about Félicité. They should include as many specific details as they can, but also not hesitate to include general impressions that they received from the reading. When everyone has done this, invite students to share what they remember and generate a list on the board. (This should all be done from memory without referencing the text).

2. Small Groups: In small groups of two or three, have students comb through the first chapter to see if there is anything they missed. Once they've done this, ask each group to generate a description...
