Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

Madame Aubain - This character had to sell several properties upon the death of her spouse due to significant debt.

Félicité - This character is a faithful servant and the central character of the story.

Loulou - When this character dies, the body is stuffed and becomes an object of adoration.

Paul - This character is sent away to school in Caen at a young age.

Theodore - This character marries a wealthy elderly person in order to avoid conscription into the army.
