Chapters 1 - 5

• Chapter 1 consists of the reports filed by Johor, a Canopean emissary whose job is tending to the order of the Canopean colonies.

• Generally speaking, Canopus is ruled by Love. Shikasta is a chaotic planet, and one of Johor's worst experiences.

• Chapter 2 is a guide for colonial servants who live on Shikasta.

• The very nature of Shikasta requires it to be in tension; all forms of life there prey on all others.

• Shikasta contains six concentric shells, and Zone Six is the shell which concerns human history.
• Emissaries are sometimes incarnated as inhabitants of the planets they oversee, and these trips are usually planned. However, Johor's brother Taufiq, another emissary, was deluded into believing that he was actually the being he incarnated as.

• There is a zone outside Zone Six where lost souls exist, waiting to be reincarnated, and they are generally miserable there.
