Objective

Objective: Chapters 1, 2 and 3 In the first chapter of "She's Come Undone", we are introduced to the story of Dolores Price, a girl whose troubled family life is juxtaposed by the solace she finds in television. Review for the class the concept of juxtaposition and examine its use within the chapter.

1. Present the students with a short lesson reviewing the concept of juxtaposition.

2. Discuss the benefits of juxtaposition using these prompts: Why might an author choose to use juxtaposition? What are its limitations?

3. Divide students into small groups of 3-4. Ask students to address the following questions: What is Dolores' family situation? What is the relationship between her mother and her father? How is Dolores treated? What does the arrival of the television mean to Dolores? What is Dolores' daily ritual with the television?
