Front Matter through Chapter Eight

· Following a dedication and a table of contents, the novel begins with Chapter One, Sierra and Manny conferring as she notices changes to a mural painted of the late Papa Acevedo.

· Sierra resumes work on her own mural on the side of the Tower, asking Manny if her work should continue, which he emphatically affirms: “We hate the Tower. We spit on the Tower. Your paint is our nasty loogie, hocked upon the stupidity that is the Tower” (8).

· Sierra muses on the Tower, considering its history and location, as she proceeds to work on her mural, the history and impetus of which is also described.

· Work on the mural is interrupted by a text message from Sierra’s friend, Bennie, who invites her to...
