Anna

Anna was Sidney's mother. Write a newspaper obituary for Sidney's mom.

Family Tree

Anna was from a large family. She had kids with her first husband and with Sidney's dad. Her mom, called "Old Mama" remarried after Anna's dad died. Sidney and his siblings had a host of uncles, and Sidney and Jimmy married more than once. In small groups, create a family tree for the Sidney beginning with his maternal grandparents. Compare the trees and discuss any differences.

The Store

Dad runs a store when Sidney and Jimmy are very young. Sidney mentions canned milk, candy and cookies coming from the store. Divide the class into three groups. Have each group develop an ad campaign to convince people to buy each item from their store (each store will need a name). Then talk about which ads are the most persuasive and why.
