1) Class Discussion: The chapter begins with a man and a boy running from something. Discuss with students what these two characters appear to be running from. Ask students to discuss the fear that seems to surround these two characters. Discuss the desperation they seem to share to get out of the United States. Discuss the nightmares the boy has and how that affects the overall tone of the chapter.

2) Class Discussion: The tall man continuously buys a Portland newspaper even after leaving the United States and appears to be searching for something in particular.
