Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters

Captain Joshua Slocum - This was the first man to sail around the world alone and he eventually recorded his journey in the book, Sailing Alone Around the World.

Pirates - This group was one of the issues that needed to be faced by Slocum when contemplating his solo trip across the Atlantic.

Captain Eben Pierce - An acquaintance of Slocum's; an American whaling captain who offered Slocum the thirty-seven-foot gaff sloop known as the Spray.
