1. Class discussion. Could Running with the Demon had been set anywhere? How does the setting make this a unique story? How does the setting affect the characters, the plot, and the themes? Why is the setting important?

2. Group work. Create a chart comparing the real world to the world of Running with the Demon.

3. In-class writing: Students will write a short paper on how the town in which they reside currently and attend school has shaped their lives.

4. Homework: Write an informal argument/persuasion essay taking the stand that Running with the Demon's world would be either better or worse to live in than the real world. Support your essay with specific examples.
