· The story opens with the main character Carla.

· Carla stands at the barn door and hears a car coming, which she is sure must be Mrs. Sylvia Jamieson returning from her vacation in Greece.

· Mrs. Jamieson lived about a half mile down the road from Clark and Carla’s.

· Carla watches the road hoping it is not Mrs. Jamieson, but soon sees that it is.

· Mrs. Jamieson, tanned with bleached hair, does not notice Carla.

· Clark is not aware that Mrs. Jamieson has returned yet, but Carla knows he will soon see her driving to town for groceries, or, she may call.
