The Drum Circle

John Paul Ziller is known as a wild drummer and artist. Using any available surface (or, if you have them, small drums), form a drum circle with the class in order to evoke the attitude of John Paul's music. Some people can recite favorite passages from the novel as part of the music's framework.

Breaking Bread

Baking and sharing meals are very important to the Zillers' rituals. Bring in some baked goods to share with the class while discussing the book. If able, you may bake breads and cookies or bring them in from a store. The importance is in sharing a meal together over a good discussion with good company. If you would like, read passages from the book that deals with their use of food in celebrations.
