1) Class Discussion: What is unusual about Frederic's sleeping habits? Beneath whose window does he sleep? What is a rhododendron? What do Frederic's sleeping habits reveal about his character?

2) Small Group Discussion: How might Frederic's fiancee feel about Frederic sleeping beneath her window in the rhododendrons? Does this behavior bode well for their relationship?

3) Short Essay: Write a short essay describing how Frederic's sleeping habits bring humor to the play, even though the audience never sees Frederic in the rhododendrons. (Hint: consider the gardener.)

4) Homework: Write an essay exploring how the characters of Joshua and Hugo are revealed through their discussion of Frederic's sleeping habits.
