Objective

The idea of virtue is something that comes up often during the course of this story, with the idea of virtue being defended and valued for all characters. Today's objective is to discuss the idea of virtue, what it means, and how it is seen in today's society.

Lesson

1. Have each student define the idea of virtue.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they feel they are virtuous people.

3. As a class, have the students discuss the idea of virtue as it is seen in modern society. Where does virtue come up? Why doesn't virtue have a bigger role in the everyday world? What do students fel about the need for virtue in modern society?

4. Homework: Have each student describe one virtuous act that has been covered in a local paper.
