Objective: Pages 1-42 Throughout the novel, the author uses several terms that the readers may not be familiar with. The students will be able to look at the vocabulary of the text in order to gain a motivation for reading and to gain an understanding of the key terms used in the novel.
1) 1. Vocabulary Search -- Have the class scour the story for 10-15 minutes looking for words that they are unfamiliar with. After the students finish, pass around an overhead transparency sheet and have each student add words to the list. Display the overhead and ask the students to give a definition for the words (i.e. if someone writes down jumper, then ask the class if they know what jumper means).
