Objective

In this chapter we meet the three main human characters, Weston, Devine and Ransom. The interplay between characters, their emotions, and beliefs are a major aspect of any novel. The objective in the following exercises is to look at characters and how they interact. What makes a character interesting? Boring? Real? We'll look at these questions and more.

Lesson

1. Choose one of the three characters introduced in this chapter and address a letter to him. In your letter state why you like him, what you like about him, how you imagine him to appear, what you don't like about him, and what you think he's going to be in the book - the bad guy, good guy, someone neutral, etc.
