Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

Constable Warren - This character rescues a man who has fallen drunk into a snowbank and tries to make sure that the young boys don't start smoking.

Sam Craig - This character bring news, but instead of bringing news of life, he brings news of death.

Joe Crowell - This character was a bright newspaper boy, but died in France during World War I.

Si Crowell - This character is the town's newspaper boy and does not have a positive opinion of marriage.
