Objective

"In The World of Wrestling," the author discusses wrestling as a myth and what it says about his culture. He compares wrestling to a theatrical performance, mimicking real life situations. The objective of this lesson is to learn more about this kind of theater and if what it has to say about society is vital.

Lesson

1. Class discussion: How is wrestling similar to a theatrical performance? What are the types of players one would typically see in a wrestling match? How are they like characters out of a play? How are they like characters out of real life?

2. Group activity: Discuss in groups the differences between American and French wrestling. What does French wrestling say about its culture? And American? Why is it interesting that they differ in these ways?

3. Writing activity: Write an essay on how the "story-line" of a wrestling match is something similar...
