Objective

MUSASHI is a series of books written by the Japanese author Musashi. Set in the 17th century. It fictionalizes the adventures of the famous

samurai swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.

The aim of this lesson is to introduce the novel.

Lesson

1. Class discussion. What do the students already know about Eiji Yoshikawa and his novels? What can the students tell about the book by looking at its cover and reading the title? What do the students expect from the novel? Why do they expect these things to happen?

2. With the students look at the questions that Eiji Yoshikawaasks in the opening chapter. Divide the students into pairs and ask the students to write down five questions Eiji Yoshikawa poses.
