1. Class Discussion: What is genre? What typifies the format of this book as a genre? Is it a screenplay? Is it a journal? Are genres easily defined and/or, can a work be of two or even several different genres? What are some examples? What can you tell from the first few pages of this novel about its genre or format elements? Be specific. What elements do you see already in this book that you have experienced in other books, movies, or television shows that might be classified as science fiction?
